Welcome Home USS Missouri!

What a beautiful day it was on October 4, 2017.  Not only because of the clear blue sky and the sun shining down on the crowd, but because of the contagious energy of dozens of families waiting to be reunited with sailors after a six month deployment.

When the USS Missouri finally docked in Groton, Connecticut, children, spouses and parents raced into the arms of their loved-ones. Among those patiently waiting was newborn, Carson Hammer, who was born while his father was deployed. The day had finally come for them to meet.

Described by NBC Connecticut as, “A day of tears, laughter and pure joy,” the crew of about 130 and their families were able to catch up, relax and enjoy their special day.

The Hometown Foundation, Inc. was proud to sponsor the reunion and provide all refreshments for the celebration. There will never be a way to show just how grateful we are for the servicemen and women stationed around the world, and events like these remind us of just how much military personnel and their families sacrifice.
