Each week the Greater Waterbury Meals on Wheels program distributes meals to over 600 homebound seniors in the area, of which more than 100 have pets in the home. When it came to our attention that some of these seniors were sharing their meals with their pets because they were unable to get the pet supplies they needed, The Hometown Foundation, Inc. partnered with Meals on Wheels to provide meals to almost 150 pets in the Greater Waterbury area. For more than 7 years we have donated over $800 worth of dog and cat food and litter every week. We recognized this special bond between seniors and their beloved animals and created this program to ensure that the cost of taking care of their animals was one less obstacle to keep families together.
