Chick-Fil-A Steps Up to Help Their Local Police K-9 Units

Each year, The Hometown Foundation, Inc. recognizes the month of February as Police K-9 Awareness Month. During February, the Foundation raises funds to donate Police K-9s, support training, and purchase essential equipment such as Garmin G.P.S collars and watches, K-9 cooling vests, police cruiser heat alarms, bite suits, and more to local and state police departments. We partner with local businesses and organizations to raise funds for the K-9 Units that serve within their own community. This year, we were fortunate to partner with Chick-Fil-A to support the Rio Rancho Police K-9 Unit. Their K-9 Unit consists of K-9 Rocky and K-9 Nigel, both donated by The Hometown Foundation, Inc.

Chick-fil-A believes in serving communities like neighbors, leading locally and that kindness is a higher calling. They emulate this passion through their fundraising efforts and keeping their generosity flowing through every act they do within their own communities. Chick-Fil-A chose one weekend and donated a percentage of the Mobile Order sales to the K-9 Unit. This simple act of generosity generated more funds than the annual stipend the K-9 Unit is granted from their town.

Most people do not realize that Police K-9 Units are not funded by their local or state municipality and that they rely heavily on private donations. When communities come together, good change can happen. These funds were put to use rather quickly and we were able to purchase and donate two bullet proof vests and three pairs of lighted K-9 gloves for the handlers. We would like to thank Bridget Alcala, the store manager, for demonstrating community involvement and creating an impact in her town.

Throughout the year, we host numerous programs to raise funds for K-9 Units locally and across the country. The Hometown Foundation is committed to equipping as many departments as possible with K-9 Units to ensure they are serving their communities positively and impartially. Our team sees and understands the value of Police K-9s and our mission is to educate others on their invaluable assets that they offer to law enforcement agencies.

Police K-9s are used for finding missing persons, detecting narcotics and accelerants, apprehending suspects, finding crime scene evidence, handler protection, and used as a community-policing tool.

The programs we implement to reach our goals are Blue Jeans for Blue Paws, restaurant fundraisers, and our Hang Tag/Round Up/Reusable Bag Program, which are incorporated into our IGA, Retailer, and Independent stores. The Hometown Foundation also utilizes the donation box program, which requires the support from local businesses and restaurants to place donation boxes in their facilities or check out areas to collect donations. All proceeds benefit the local Police K-9 in your community and our program.

Throughout the year, we also host K-9 focused events within the community to rally the citizens to raise awareness of their local Police K-9 Units and to shed light on the assistance that they need. The Hometown Foundation works closely with local and state police departments to understand what they need and how to equip their personnel properly.
