On Monday, November 16, 2020, The Hometown Foundation, Inc. collaborated with the Moosup Valley Volunteer Fire Company Engine 2 in Foster, Rhode Island to provide complete, nutritious meals to our neighbors in need this holiday season. The Hometown Foundation donated 76 turkeys to the Moosup Valley Fire Department who then, in turn, reached out to the Department of Human Services to see where there was a need. Together, we were able to fulfill the request of every family who was facing food insecurity in the town of Foster, Rhode Island.
The third annual Hometown Foundation HungerLESS Holidays initiative is one of the largest turkey drives in the Northeast, donating over 18,000 turkeys to families and individuals in need. This entire initiative and fundraising campaign has raised over $250,000 for food insecurity and meal support organizations, and will feed over 145,000 individuals in need this year.
The Moosup Valley Volunteer Fire Company participates in the Annual Dream Ride Firefighter Chili Cook-Off which his hosted by The Hometown Foundation each August in Farmington, CT. The Fire Company has been a large supporter of Hometown Foundation’s initiatives throughout the year to help those in need. This year, the need for food donations is greater than ever because of the effects of COVID-19 and we are ready to take on that challenge.
To raise much needed funds to support dozens of meal support organizations throughout the Northeast, The Hometown Foundation is collaborating with valued sponsors as well as over 45 independently owned grocery stores who are actively fundraising throughout November to December to support our HungerLESS Holidays campaign. Funds raised at each location will benefit The Hometown Foundation and a meal support organization in the retailer’s own community. To support HungerLESS Holidays, be sure to stop in at Better Val-U Supermarket in West Warwick to donate.
Thank you to the Moosup Valley Volunteer Fire Company for your time and services to make this donation possible. The goal of this turkey drive and fundraising campaign is to allow The Hometown Foundation to continue our mission and assist those suffering from food insecurity. This holiday season we are bringing the community together in a time where we need it the most. We hope you will consider shopping local or making a donation to donate a turkey and make a difference. Wishing you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
