The Hometown Foundation and Farmhouse Restaurant’s K-9 Fundraiser delivers a GPS collar and Police K-9.
Thanks to the tremendous success of Farmhouse Restaurant’s American Hero Benefit Dinner, Police K-9 Officer Jake has received an all-new Garmin Alpha 100 GPS Tracking Collar. K-9 Jake carries the name of USMC Jake Pettit who lost his life to PTSD.
Donated by the Hometown Foundation, Inc., The Garmin Alpha 100 is an invaluable tool to the field. The device can help handler Sergeant Irizarry, measure speed, distance, area searched and direction being traveled by K-9 Jake while he serves with the Fairfield Police Department. The collar also has the capability to switch to “Rescue Mode” which will conserve battery life in the case of an emergency.
Seeing that The Hometown Foundation, Inc. has a long history with K-9 Jake, it is only fitting that he would be the recipient of such a useful tool. K-9 Jake, at only 8 weeks old, accompanied The Hometown Foundation, Inc. to its first ever event for Project Blue Paw, which took place at Trumbull High School.
Project Blue Paw is an initiative run by The Hometown Foundation, Inc. that aims to give high school students the opportunity to learn how K-9s are trained for police and military work. The program also educates students about trauma, as well as the behavioral and occupational aspects of K-9s. Children with
intellectual disabilities are also included in the program in order to make new friends and interact with local community and law enforcement leaders.
The Hometown Foundation, Inc. partnered with Miller Motorcars to purchase K-9 Jake from Kennel Zo Slovenskeho in 2017. Since being donated to Fairfield PD, Sergeant Irizarry has led an incredible effort to spread awareness about PTSD while fighting crime. Most recently, the dynamic duo raised over $10,000, which was donated to Special Olympics and K-9 charities.
Police K-9 Louie, named after Brook field native and fallen Navy SEAL Jason Lewis, was officially donated earlier this month. The Hampton Beach Police K-9 Unit traveled from Virginia to pick up K-9 Louie at Farmhouse Restaurant. Police K-9 Louie is now serving a community where Jason’s wife and three children reside. The K-9 Unit has promised to put forth every effort to ensure Jason’s name and heroic story is carried on during Louie’s life as a police officer.
With ‘First Response’ being one of its core initiatives, The Hometown Foundation, Inc. is no stranger to supporting local and State Police departments. For instance, K-9 Safety Awareness Month is a multifaceted campaign held every February consisting of in-store fundraising, cash collection boxes in local businesses, t-shirt sales, Blue Jeans for Blue Paws, and much more. Other events such as dress downs are held throughout the year to raise funds for K-9 units. Proceeds collected are used for purchasing Police K-9s, GPS Tracking Collars, Training and Safety Equipment. If you are looking for ways to get involved please visit HometownFoundation.org.
The Hometown Foundation, Inc. is ecstatic to be part of this double donation which wouldn’t have been possible without Farmhouse Restaurant, who so kindly donated the entire facility while it’s staff volunteered their time and donated all of the night’s tips. We wish K-9s Jake and Louie a long, successful and happy career.
